Boosa, Bentleigh East by Rockstar

I've been seeing Boosa pics showing up all over my Instagram feed. It looked like perfect Insta food-pretty and funky with some smoke and mirrors, and a middle Eastern twist.

I was catching up with an old work friend who is now retired. We like to try a new local-ish place each time. She suggested Boosa and I was pleased to accept! Of course it was a cold wet grey miserable Melbourne day; luckily there were car parks available on Centre Road.

It's a lovely lovely space - quite intimate and warm. Lots of light, and greenery and copper and blush. I'd be very happy if my lounge looked anything like that! We were lucky enough to be seated just near the heavenly heating!

Boosa, Bentleigh East, coffee
We started with hot drinks so we could chat and relax into a good gossip. The Retiree loved her coffee; she put it up there as one of the good ones in Melbourne and we all know that is indeed high praise!

The menu is a mix of lighter options and more substantive lunch choices. I was tempted by the brioche French toast with chocolate and halva but I got distracted by the view of the black bunned pulled lamb slider with smoky chips. Served covered in a cloche, removed to release a smoky woody aroma. Except I didn't want that…but the chips looked so good and it was so cold outside. The lovely wait staff very happily accepted my order for a kids order of chippies and the kids egg and bacon burger on coloured buns (see first pic)! I didn't need to beg or explain - fantastic service. The burgers and chippies came first - they later explained that kids meals get served first! The bacon is thick cut with a good bite and balance of meat and crispy bacon fat, the egg well cooked and the colourful buns soft and delish! Served in a smiley face on the plate! This big kid was pretty happy!!!

And the chippies - love a place that knows they are chippies!!! Some were golden crispy crunch, and others that soft fluffy potato chippie heaven!

Boosa, Bentleigh East, cauliflower fritters
The Retiree couldn't go past the cauli dish and it was the prettiest cauliflower I've ever seen! Three cauliflower fritters, a golden yolked fried egg, a colourful tumble of tomatoes, a spoonful of dukkah and a smear of cauli sauce. The Retiree enjoyed it immensely and the plate was almost clean when she was done!

Verdict

Overall

Another Bentleigh winner! Creative food beautifully implemented in a Scandi pretty friendly environment! And that was without even trying the doughnuts - which I need to go back to try!
